Terms of service
Last updated: October 15, 2026
These terms govern the use of the Beau Coup service: the apps, the website beaucoupchess.com and the server that synchronises your data (api.beaucoupchess.com). By creating an account or using the service, you accept them. The service is published by Julien Bachelier (see the legal notice).
1. The service
Beau Coup helps you build chess opening repertoires and memorise them with spaced repetition. The core features are free, with no advertising. An optional paid subscription, Beau Coup Premium, adds features that run on our servers (such as cloud engine analysis).
The source code of the Beau Coup apps is free software, distributed under the GNU General Public License version 3. These terms do not restrict the rights that licence gives you over the code; they govern the hosted service (accounts, synchronisation, Premium).
2. Your account
- You can use the app without an account; an account is needed to synchronise between devices and for Premium.
- Give an e-mail address you control and keep your password to yourself: you are responsible for what is done with your account.
- You can delete your account at any time, from your account page or in the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
- You can link a Lichess, Google or Chess.com sign-in to your account, only explicitly from your account: nothing is ever linked automatically based on the e-mail address.
- If a sign-in method you link already belongs to another Beau Coup account, it is only moved after you confirm. If it was that other account's last way to sign in, that account is merged into yours: you can import its repertoires and their review history (those you do not import are deleted with it), then it is permanently deleted. Otherwise it keeps existing and you can copy its repertoires. A repertoire imported before is updated rather than duplicated.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the service for anything unlawful;
- attack, overload or try to break into the service, or use it through automated scripts beyond normal personal use (for instance to harvest the opening explorer or the analysis engine);
- work around the limits of the free plan, or resell or share access to Premium.
We may suspend an account that breaches these rules, after warning you when circumstances allow.
4. Your content
Your repertoires, comments and review history belong to you. You allow us to store, process and copy them only as needed to provide the service (synchronisation, backups). You can export your repertoires as PGN at any time from the app.
5. Beau Coup Premium
- The price, including all taxes, is shown before you pay. TVA non applicable, art. 293 B du CGI.
- The subscription is monthly or yearly and renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it.
- You can cancel at any time: Premium then stays active until the end of the period already paid, and no further payment is taken. Subscriptions bought on our website are managed from your account page; those bought in Google Play or the App Store are managed and refunded under the rules of that store.
- If the price changes, we will tell you in advance; the new price only applies from your next renewal, and you can cancel before it.
- When accounts are merged, the merged account's Premium subscription moves to yours if you have none, with its billing unchanged. If that Premium was cancelled but is still running, the remaining time is kept in reserve on your account and starts when your own period ends; no billing date is ever changed. If both accounts have a renewing subscription, the merge is refused until one of them is cancelled, and its remaining time is then kept the same way.
Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the European Union and subscribed on our website, you can withdraw within 14 days of your subscription: write to contact@beaucoupchess.com and we will refund you in full, without having to give a reason, within 14 days.
6. Availability
We do our best to keep the service available and your data safe (backups, encryption), but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service: maintenance, incidents or third-party services (Lichess, payment providers) may cause interruptions. The app keeps working offline with the data stored on your device.
7. Liability
The service is provided as is. Within the limits allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, or for the use you make of the training content. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Significant changes will be announced by e-mail or in the app at least 30 days in advance; if you disagree, you can delete your account and, as a subscriber, cancel your subscription before they apply.
9. Applicable law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence. In case of a problem, please contact us first at contact@beaucoupchess.com. If you are a consumer and we cannot find a solution, you can refer the dispute free of charge to a consumer mediator: [à compléter] Otherwise, the competent courts are those designated by law; as a consumer, you may also go to the courts of your place of residence.
